With the arrival of spring, nature is awakening in the same way as ever, despite the fact that our world has changed significantly during the past year. However, the sunshine, the chirping of birds and the lush forest-fields offer hope. At the same time, this all tempts you to move out of your home and recharge your batteries in nature with your four-legged companion.
After the long and dark winter months, it’s wonderful to wake up to the sun shining through the gaps of the curtain and hear blackbirds singing under the window. Your pet will also hop out of your bed more eagerly, excited about new adventures. So, pull out a map, choose a place you’ve never been before, and let the adventure begin!
What to take with you
The most important thing to take is the right equipment. In the same way you put on your outdoor shoes, give your dog the harness suitable for excursions. The IDC®Longwalk is the perfect choice for longer walks and going out in nature. Three points of this harness have an elastic design, to make sure it responds to every movement of your dog. This is called the Duo-Flex® system, to which the leash is also connected. Thanks to this flexible design, you will both feel a subdued force when the leash is taught. With the handle on the back of the harness you can easily help your dog or stop her if needed.
If you go for a long walk, always take plenty water with you for you and your dog. Although there may be natural sources of water along the way, you should only let them drink from what is also suitable for human consumption. It is worth carrying a folding bowl for drinking, as it takes up very little space. It’s handy if you can hang it on your bag from the outside, because then it won’t get the other items in your bag wet.
Don’t forget about your dog’s favourite toy either! If you see them with plenty of energy, have a game with the JK9®Duoplay ball. It can also be very exciting to hide the toy from them in the tall grass or among the trees so that they have to find it. (Only put it where you can find it afterwards, in case your dog doesn’t find it.)
Make sure you have pick-up bags on you too that you can easily put in the IDC®Universal Side Bag which can also be attached to the harness. Be sure to clean up after your pet, don’t leave any “trace” behind in the countryside!
If you travel frequently, you can also put together a travel first aid kit in the IDC®Universal Side Bag. Include things that can be applied to both humans and animals. For example, disinfectant for cuts, a bandage, an insect repellent, an anti-allergy agent, a tick-removing tweezer, a damp cloth and some spare poop bags. You can then secure the bag on your dog’s harness or even on your belt.
Don’t forget about protection!
Pleasant weather also lures parasites out of their winter hiding places. Therefore, never forget about protection against ticks and mosquitoes. It is best to combine several methods and provide protection both internally and externally at the same time (for example with a Tickless ultrasound tick- and flea repellent). These parasites can also spread dangerous diseases to you, so it’s worth protecting yourself.
