Kira is a resident of Ebárvaház shelter. She was rescued from the street by a young man who witnessed her being hit by a car. He took her to the veterinary clinic, covered the costs of her treatment and even financed her first surgery. However, as he was unable to provide her with a permanent home, he turned to Ebárvaház for help.
Kira’s post-surgery recovery did not go smoothly – she refused to put any weight on her injured leg. At this point, she was referred to the shelter’s own orthopedic specialist at the Mátyás Veterinary Center. Examinations revealed that the implanted fixation device had bent and the femur had not healed properly. Dr. László Sükösd performed corrective surgery, and six months later the metal implant was removed. Unfortunately, Kira’s ordeal was far from over: shortly after, her femur fractured again at the same spot, requiring yet another operation.
Weeks later, she was still reluctant to use her leg, so the Ebárvaház team insisted on further examinations. It turned out that encapsulated bone pins were hindering her movement, and their minor surgical removal finally brought real improvement. However, due to Kira’s young and energetic nature, the surgical wound partially reopened after the stitches had just been removed. Another procedure to close the wound was recommended, but the team wanted to spare her from further surgery if possible. According to the veterinarians, without stapling the wound, healing could take several weeks.
This was when the previously used JK9 Pet Laser came into action. Kira received 3–4 laser treatments per day, and after just two days the wound began to close beautifully. Knowing Kira, the treatment will continue for a few more days – just to be on the safe side. 😊
