The hottest summer days not only put our bodies to the test, but our four-legged family members also need to be paid extra attention to at this time. It is worth going for your daily walk in the early morning hours and in the evening. In the hot sun, the pavement can heat up so much that our dog’s paws can get seriously injured even after a few steps.
The most comfortable summer wear during walks is the IDC®Powair harness, which cools your pet down when coming into contact with water. However, you shouldn’t let them jump into the very first fountain you spot in the hope that they’ll cool off. Urban fountains contain chemicals due to cleaning and can sometimes be infected, which is why they pose a major threat to your dog’s health.
Don’t forget to protect them against ticks, fleas and mosquitoes this season. The latter can cause heartworm disease with their bite. This disease is becoming more common and can become serious without treatment. It is definitely worth having a test done by your veterinarian and taking prevention just as seriously as in the case of ticks and fleas. Another big enemy of our puppy is awn, which can insidiously burrow between their paws or ears. Avoid grassy areas during walks, and always check your dog’s feet and fur upon arriving home.
During the summer, we also have to take care of ourselves, because sunburn or an unpleasant heatstroke needs to be taken seriously. Just as we try to protect ourselves in heatwaves, we should also protect our four-legged family members from the dangers of the summer with the same attention, since we are the only ones they can rely on.
